Symptoms of GAD

GAD, or as per its full form Generalized Anxiety Disorder, involves excessive anxiety and stress which make living a normal life very difficult and relaxation almost impossible. In other words a person with GAD worries far more about the same things which other people would give little or no thought to. For instance, if a friend doesn’t return a phone call immediately, a person with GAD might start to panic and think that the friendship is in disarray and needs saving.

The main difference between a person with GAD and a person who may be slightly anxious is that a person with GAD allows anxiety to control his life or alter his actions. Usually a GAD patient will maintain a tense posture and exhibit restless behavior. Additionally, the patient may also suffer from some form of insomnia as well as have pale or sweaty skin. Among the other symptoms a GAD patient may have are hyperventilation and excessive sighing. Along with these a GAD patient may display various physical symptoms as well such as muscle aches, muscle tension, fatigue, headaches, twitching, difficulty swallowing, and trembling.

Fortunately, what makes GAD stand out from other forms of anxiety disorders is that usually GAD patients don’t get into the habit of avoiding certain situations because of their condition. When the disorder is mild, people will be able to easily go about their normal working day. It’s only when the disorder is in severe form that carrying out daily activities becomes very hard. Alternatively, GAD patients may have good and bad days, where by there anxiety and other symptoms may have less or more influence respectively.

Unfortunately GAD patients may simultaneously suffer from other forms of anxiety disorders as well. It is quite common for GAD patients to concurrently suffer from depression and/or social anxiety.

Hence the argument for treatment is pretty obvious. If you feel you are suffering from GAD, make the effort of going to a doctor and checking yourself out. There are numerous treatment options available for GAD ranging from psychotherapy to medicines. So much so that even herbal remedies are available nowadays.

Lastly, make sure you are leading a balanced and healthy lifestyle. The kind of diet you maintain and the amount of exercise you do all tend to add up to how relaxed you are. Moreover, by maintaining a healthy lifestyle you’ll soon notice that your anxiety levels will fall while you’ll have greater control over your emotions and feelings.
