Alter your lifestyle to stop anxiety
As the old saying goes, ‘health is wealth’. If you are able to lead a healthy life, chances are that problems of anxiety and worrying will barely affect your life. The key to a healthy lifestyle lies in maintaining balance; meaning you do not overdo anything rather keep everything in check.
But first, remember you don’t have to go through things alone. To keep a check on your anxiety, you should build a strong support group for yourself. Then, if you ever feel too anxious, just connect with a family member or a friend. By unburdening your worries this way you would feel lighter while also making your worries seem less threatening as you talk about them.
You should also remember that your diet has a large role to play in helping curb anxiety. Make sure you limit the intake of caffeine and sugar. Caffeine has the tendency to increase anxiety while sugar can cause massive fluctuations in your blood sugar level, which result in you feeling drained and numb. Similarly, avoid alcohol and nicotine as well. It is a misconception that alcohol can help curb anxiety. While it’s true that it temporarily calms your nerves, in the bigger picture it causes greater anxiety when its effects wear off. The same can be said for smoking which has been known to increase the heart beat and blood pressure, thus making you feel more anxious.
Additionally, you should also adopt more healthy eating habits. Instead of having three large meals, start off by having a breakfast and then small, frequent meals the rest of the day. Ensure that you’re not going hungry for too long as this can lead to low blood pressure which in turn can lead to anxiety. Ideally, you would want to take in a lot of fruits and vegetables as they provide the carbohydrates you need. This can’t be stressed enough…carbohydrates will stabilize your blood sugar, thus make sure you have your greens and fruits.
You would also want to complement your healthy diet with regular exercise. Ideally, you should be doing a thirty-minute aerobic routine on most days if not daily. Aerobics will help reduce your anxiety levels as well as give you a boost both physically and mentally by relieving you of stress and making you feel more relaxed.
Lastly, make sure you’re getting a good night’s sleep daily. As anxiety causes insomnia, you might find getting to sleep a little hard. However, given that you’ll be maintaining an overall healthy lifestyle, you’ll see that sleeping will become easier. Make sure you get eight hours of shuteye every night.
By keeping this balance in your life and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, you’ll soon see that you are more relaxed throughout the day and that your anxiety levels are completely under your control.
